4700 white poplar seedlings were planted this week in Măneşti, Prahova County, on an area of 2.8 ha, in an initiative of afforestation of Rompetrol in partnership with Plantăm fapte bine in Romania. The initiative is part of the company's commitment to contribute to the growth of forested areas and ensure clean air for the inhabitants of the Prahova community.
In the autumn season, black and white poplar plantations are planned in the commune of Drăgăneşti on a 5 ha plot of land, owned by the state and managed by the Ploieşti Forest District.
White poplar and black poplar are native species that are suitable for several categories of degraded land, but especially those subject to flooding. They are rustic species that grow quickly and substantially change the landscape in a short time of 2-3 years.
Land afforestation is a measure aimed primarily at helping to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by capturing CO2, reducing soil erosion, increasing water retention in the soil, and reducing the effects of climate change and conserving flora species and fauna.
This approach contributes to three objectives of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: (13) Climate Action, (15) Life on Land (17) Partnerships for the Goals.
